A message from Waiheke Green Cross

Covid 19

As Covid19 spreads across the globe we are now seeing in real time how our healthcare systems cope with such a pandemic. The consistent messages we seem to be hearing in regards to solving this challenge . . . is on reducing any ‘stress’ on our hospitals and hospital workers based on the rationale that we couldn’t cope with a sudden spike in admissions.

So the best thing we can do in a crisis like this is:

  1. Follow the guidelines set by our government under a Level 4 state of emergency.
  2. Do everything possible to support our own immune system and that of anyone sharing our ‘isolation bubble’.

Waiheke Green Cross has noticed a big spike ourselves, in online sales of both Resihi and Cordyceps Mushroom Extracts.  Reishi is known to support our immune system and Cordyceps is known to support healthy lung function. We continue to get good feedback but as always we encourage everyone to do their own research regarding the efficacy of these mushroom supplements.

In addition, we recommend that we all use this time as a gift to focus on nutritional whole foods, physical movement, proper rest, adequate hydration and some extra meditation if you aren’t already. Other supplements including vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, selenium and magnesium are also recommended daily.

So what to do with all this extra ‘time’ . . .

A film we have been excited to see was recently released for global online viewing. The Fantastic Fungi film, directed by Louie Schwartzberg is a must see and its recent release is perfectly timed. It uses stunning cinematography and intelligent discussion to reveal the mycelium network beneath our feet with many timely references to how mushrooms can assist in a pandemic.

This is a very unique time in our history and we encourage everyone to look to nature for support, guidance and healing. Our team are taking daily ‘nature baths’; spending a minimum of 30 minutes in the bush with daily moving, stretching, breathing, meditating and practicing gratitude.

This ‘collective pause’ that the world is experiencing is an opportunity to be quiet, go within, move through the state of panic and come to create a state of peace. We are here to support our community throughout this experience and continue to offer free deliveries for everyone on Waiheke Island. Nationwide we are still delivering but there will be slight delays in the postal system.

Please stay safe, be well, and enjoy nature.

Kia Kaha,

The WGC Team
